Chair Lion Urve Mets
Speakers Dr. Ott Pärna
Description Ongoing mega-trends have the potential of significantly altering the nature of work in all countries, albeit with different intensity: globalisation, technological progress and demographic change – as well as the changes in values and preferences that will go paired with them. Together, these trends are likely to affect the quantity and quality of jobs that are available, as well as how and by whom they will be carried out. The division of labour between humans, machines and algorithms is shifting fast. Indeed, automation, robotization and digitization look different across different industries. At the same time, the most important skills for the future tend to be soft skills, not technical abilities. Moreover, leadership agility and the ability to collaborate are among the most important skills in the future of work, and also the concept of entrepreneurship is changing rapidly. Ott’s presentation will analyse these trends and answers to the questions such as what are the most in-demand skills for the future of work? What is the nature of future business? What will the future bring for the “gig economy” and freelancing? And what does it all mean to our educational system?
